Hi in previous post I have mentioned about the Microsoft’s official release of Windows 8 development preview. Now I have noted that while installing it on VMware you there might face an error “HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED”. Now I will explain one possible solution for the problem which worked for me.

I was using VMware version 7.1.x, and I was trying out the image looking at the settings which might have gone wrong. Every thing seems to be just fine. But when I power on the VM then it shows the same error.

After doing a little research on the subject I found the information that the real culprit is VMware itself. For some reason VMware versions below 8 were not able to load the Windows 8 image.

So downloaded the latest version of VMware (Download: VMware 8 workstation) and then installed it. I was happy and surprised to find that the same Windows 8 image was working fine with VMware 8.

So if you are facing the same issue, hopefully doing this will solve the problem and even though VMware is paid software, don’t worry yet you have option to evaluate VMware so you can download a copy of it and try software for free.
