Communication is inevitable in everyone’s life and advancement in technology has helped individuals and businessmen to converse effectively. During the year 1876, when telephone was initially introduced, people were required to stay in their houses to make or attend calls. A more innovative technology in the form of mobile phone was launched to make communication easier, where an individual was able to converse on the move. This was a boon to everyone, especially those in the business sector.
Gmail facilitates friends and family members to keep in touch with the help of video and voice chat. To make free calls, one has to sit in front of the computer. Now, Gmail is all set to introduce the feature of ‘call phones’ where anyone can make calls from Gmail to a landline or mobile number. Isn’t this great? In case you have a bad reception on your mobile phone, you can use the call phone feature from your computer to get in touch with anyone.
As of now, FREE calls can be made to the U.S and Canada whereas calls made to countries like Germany, China, Japan, France and U.K etc are charged relatively low. At present, the feature is being rolled out to U.S based Gmail users. The rates are as low as $0.02 per minute. So get ready to make the best use of this wonderful feature.
How to use the call phones feature?
- In Gmail, Choose the option which reads ‘Call phone’ on the left hand side above the chat list.
- A call box pops up, which allows you to type the contact or enter the telephone number directly using the dial pad.
- Click on the call button to make a call
Note – Ensure that you install the voice and video plug in before using the feature.
