Essential Windows 7 tips for corporate environment.

Time management is an important consideration for any company, whether there are five employees or 500. In an effort to improve their employee production, human resources departments may choose to roll out time and attendance products, such as labor management systems that work with Windows. As a result, companies are also likely to update their operating systems, including adopting Windows 7. Here are some time-saving tips for those who’ve recently made the switch.

 Shared space

When sharing a computer, saving data to a USB flash drive is necessary. While the drives allow workers to move information around quickly, they are also easy to lose, and some drives contain confidential information. Luckily, documents can be encrypted using Microsoft’s BitLocker technology. If a drive gets lost, data can only be retrieved by someone with the password. To get started, right-click the USB flash drive, turns on BitLocker, and follow the instructions to allow/deny user access.

 Print on demand

For those who move from one network to another, changing the default printer can be an unnecessarily time-consuming process. In order to automatically switch between machines, click Start, type Devices and Printers, and click the program link. Select a printer, Manage Default Printers, and the option to change the default printer when changing networks. Choose a network, the default printer that will be used, and click Add. Repeat for all available networks and get some relief from chasing down an available printer.

Speed up preview time

Mousing over taskbar buttons will reveal all the open documents under that program heading. Now toggling between documents is less of a hassle. Switch between those Microsoft Word documents, five screens open in Firefox, and email without getting click happy.

 Choose a font with ease

Windows 7 allows users to preview the fonts on their computer simply by clicking open the Fonts folder. No longer is it necessary to spend time selecting a font that might work and being disappointed. Likewise, the monotony of scrolling through every version of Arial and Times New Roman has been eliminated.

 Sticky Notes

This function allows users to quickly type notes on their desktop. Click Start, type Notes, and open the program. A note will appear at the top right of the screen, giving users the ability to jot down quick thoughts that will be automatically saved on the computer. Right-clicking will change the note color and enable pasting of information.

Track time

Clicking on the time and date in the right bottom-hand corner of the screen will bring up a quick calendar without needing to fumble for an iPhone or wait for Outlook to open. Schedule a meeting with ease, adjust the clock to monitor different time zones, and review days in the pay period.

 Calculate a formula

Yes, the calculator. Once just a handy device for quick math, Windows 7 functions include the ability to estimate fuel economy and calculate a time period. Both will come in handy for employees who need to calculate mileage or keep a personal record of their hours at work. Time management just got a little easier.
