Quick Tip – How to login to Windows 7 without typing full computer name.

You might have noticed in Windows 7 when you login to multiple accounts like logging on to your domain and local account it requires you to type the domain name/computer name  + back slash (\) and your username. Sometimes it can be a tough affair type these full format especially when you have long pc name. But there is simple trick by which you can avoid that when you are logging on to local account. All you need is to follow the below settings.

When you are asked to enter the credentials all you need to type in this format:  .\<username>

When you type the dot and back slash followed by username you can enter the local account. Hope this quick tip helped, do comment. 🙂

I know this one, was wondering if we have any such thing in XP. I don’t want to select the localhost name from drop down & don’t want to put the entire machine name.
