India’s largest Telecom provided BSNL in association with SIS Info Systems has launched telephones with Video Calling Facility which will be primarily used to set up Public Video Call Offices ( BSNL VCO) by replacing the traditional PCO‘s.

BSNL VCO:

BSNL Chairman and MD R.K Upadhyay say “We will convert existing PCO’s (Public Call Offices) to VCO’s (Video Call Offices) with these phones.  People will be able to make Voice calls to any phones and Video calls to any other IP Phone.

BSNL will at present charge 3 Rupees for 45 seconds which comes around 0.056 USD which includes 30% commission for the franchise owner. The biggest advantage of this would be that people won’t require using computers for placing a Video call. Its estimated that around 770 PCO’s across India has already confirmed that they will be shifting their business from PCO to VCO and BSNL expects to have 10 K BSNL VCO’s across country.

SIS officials confirmed that those who are looking for franchise will have to pay for BSNL VCO devices which start from 25 K Indian Rupees which is approximately 475 USD and will also have to sign an agreement for the starting of the business.
