Fix BOOTMGR is compressed problem on Windows 7 and Vista.

The main reason I am publishing this post is that I have spent some quality time to resolve this issue , one of my client called me and told that his laptop is not working and he is getting a screen saying “BOOTMGR is Compressed , press Ctrl + Alt + Del” . Well after doing a little bit of research I found out the solution which I would like to share with you all.

Well rather than explaining a lot. I would like to make it easy for you and tell you how to fix this issue.

Before proceeding further you need:

A bootable media (DVD) of Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

Fix:

  1. Insert the Bootable DVD to drive and start the pc.
  2. Select boot from CD/DVD.(Note : if you are not able to boot from CD you will have to go into your BIOS and set first boot device as CD/DVD)
  3. You will see loading of files and after that operating system installation screen.
  4. Select “Repair your computer” from the menu. (located down left side, see the below image)
  5. Now you will get a screen where you need to select “Load Drivers”, which will display you current system files.
  6. Now select “My Computer” and then right on the drive (mostly C drive) where you have your Operating system installed and select “properties”.
  7. Below the properties window you find “Compress this drive to save disk space” ,you will have to uncheck the check box, and click OK to confirm.
  8. Restart the system, you will find the issue resolved.

Well there may be other reasons also which may cause the issue, which I will discuss later.

Note: This fix can be applied for both Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Hope this help you in fixing this messy issue, which took around 1 hour for me. Do comment and do subscribe our newsletter below to get more such interesting stuffs.
