India has built its fastest ever Super computer, SAGA-220. Indian Space Research organization (ISRO) has achieved this remarkable milestone. SAGA-220 will be India’s fastest in terms of theoretical peak performance of 220 Trillion Floating Point Operations per second.
SAGA-220 is built by Satish Dhawan Supercomputing facility which is located at Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), capital of Kerala state Tiruvananthapuram at a cost of about Rs 14 crore INR (approx 4 Million USD) was inaugurated by Chairman ISRO K Radhakrishnan.
SAGA-220 will be used by scientists at ISRO specially for solving complex aerospace problems. ‘SAGA-220 stands for Supercomputer for Aerospace with GPU Architecture-220 TeraFLOPS.
Another remarkable thing about SAGA is, it’s built with commercially available hardware and uses Open Source software components and in house development.
Some features of SAGA 220 are as follows:
- Uses 400 NVIDIA Tesla 2070 GPUs.
- 400 Intel Quad Core Xeon CPUs
- Environmentally green and consumes a power of only 150 KW
